Verification Trust vs Brand Trust
Brand trust is replicable with marketing budget. Verification trust requires years of evidence. The distinction matters most in AI, where the model layer commoditizes weekly.
Trust is usually discussed as one thing. It is at least two. Brand trust means people like your company — replicable by anyone with marketing budget. Verification trust means people trust your output is correct — much harder to replicate because it requires accumulated evidence.
A medical AI with five years of clinic records showing high accuracy has verification trust. A medical AI with a slick brand and the same model has brand trust. One survives a scandal. The other doesn't.
If your defensibility argument rests on brand, you're describing a head start, not a moat. If it rests on a track record competitors would need years of operations to reproduce, you have something durable. The distinction matters more in AI than anywhere else, because the model layer is being commoditized weekly.
